NLS #TELL TALES# THE BREAK

READING OR INTERNSHIP OR FUN
It may not apply to you but it did happened to me. Immediately, I finished with my final year exam, I had nothing to do. I was basically at home for most of the days doing nothing except for the menial house chores. I had tonnes of law school materials at hand but I wasn’t interested in reading the materials. There were days when I will bring my laptop out to read law school e-materials but after reading a page I will shut down the system. That maybe you right now. My advice is don’t rush the process and there is no need to feel stressed out even before law school resumes. Do things at your own pace. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying you should not read or study before resumption. All I am saying is take a chill pill and do what you can. At this point you know your self and what system of reading works for you. My advice is follow through with what works for you. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t understand shit yet. Do what you can.
The idea of reading before resuming your first semester in law school is not a bad idea. My reading system is to glance, skim and then read. Thereafter I do the second reading to pick out salient points and for better understanding. I only proceed to the third reading for exam purposes. You might not read the way I read. It’s fine. We are all different and unique in our differences. (you can also pray for better understanding). If you wish to begin your reading, then you can begin your reading before you resume first semester in law school. I will advice you to calm down a bit if you are the type that forms notes. It would be too early to start forming notes because laws are not statics. You can begin reading materials you have but be careful because certain materials and laws are outdated. At this stage skimming and glancing through is advised.
INTERNSHIP OR FUN
During this period, you might feel going on internships is the best option for you. It is actually not a bad idea. My advice to my friends has always been and would always be, the break between the conclusion of exams and resumption of law school should be spent wisely. Have fun, learn a trade or handiwork, spend time with your loved ones and friends, rest (as much rest as you can take. Infact, over rest), sleep (if you realise you are sleeping for more than 8hours, don’t feel guilty, because you need it) and take care of your health. Visit the doctor for check ups. You don’t need to feel sick before going for check-ups. Dot your i and cross your T before resuming law school. you will also need a mentor.
More so, reduce strenuous activities during that period because you are going to the war zone. Remember that no law school in Nigeria is below the required standard. It is all up to you. They teach the same things in all the campuses and they make use of the same syllabus. Never feel bad for getting into Yola campus and not Lagos or Abuja campus. GOD’s design and plans for our lives is different. Run your race.
